Silver Norwegian Filigree Brooch by Jacob Ulrich Holfeldt Tostrup

A rare Norwegian filigree brooch designed by Jacob Ulrich Holfeldt Tostrup (1806 – 1890). Jacob was a renowned Norwegian jeweller, silversmith, and goldsmith who founded his successful jewellry company in Christiania in 1831. He became famous for innovative designs, and he created the enamelled insignia for the Order of St. Olav in 1848. Tostrup was named Royal Court Jeweller and was appointed a Knight of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for his exceptional craftsmanship. A similar filigree brooch can be found at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. And more of his jewellery designs at The Met below.

    David Andersen - Norway

Famous Norwegian jeweller David Andersen was born in Østre Toten, Norway, on May 25, 1843. In 1876, he opened his own goldsmith store in Christiania, which is now Oslo. It soon rose to prominence as a top business in the country's goldsmith sector. August 3, 1901 was Andersen's death date. Ivar David-Andersen, his grandson, actually introduced the Saga Viking range - the ring shown is one of these. The rings, bracelets, and pins found at Viking burial sites served as the inspiration for this limited edition collection. At the moment, David Andersen jewellery is highly-sought after. (The ring is sold.)

    H. C. Andersen Framed Poem Prints

Researching items is an interesting part of our job as we often seek to source items that "tell a story". This set of prints tells the story of "I dreamt about a little bird" It's a poem by Hans Cristian Andersen, and the illustrations are in black and white by artist, Markan Christiansen, who sadly passed away in 2014. There's an artist link below with art in a similar vein on the page. We haven't come across anything quite like this before. This is what we love; finding items that are just not widely available anymore, yet the legacy lives on!

    Condition of Items on Sale

If you would like any additional photos please message us: sales@danishretrofurnishings and we can send further images. Even if a vintage item is in excellent condition, it’s likely there will be minor signs of light use and any wear or tear whatsoever will be included in the listing. We very rarely sell items with any repairs and if we do, this will always be detailed with photographs. We do not sell damaged items.
Reach out with questions before purchasing and we'll reply promptly!

    Packaging

Items are sold by weight. This means that you can combine items in one delivery up to the weight for each category. All items will be carefully wrapped with quality bubble wrap and boxed or tubed for safe delivery; double-boxed in the case of baubles or glassware, etc. Boxes will be marked with fragile tape in that case. Smaller items may be sent by large envelope-size sturdy postal boxes.

    Despatch

We use Royal Mail for most items which are picked up the day after purchase if before 4pm, or the day after that if after 4pm. We use a tracked service, nationally or DPD for medium-sized parcels. In all cases, we need either a mobile number or email address to pass onto the delivery company to advise you of a delivery time.
Larger items, such as furniture, we sell also within the UK only. Contact us to discuss the options for delivery. Shiply as an example, can be cost-effective and items are photographed by the courier at the point of despatch. Smaller furniture items and artwork, we can deliver within a 40 mile radius of NE29 (North Shields) for a small delivery cost. Small artwork pieces are sent by Royal Mail Tracked medium parcel. We do send other artwork and we can discuss options such as rolling canvas between sheets of glassine, or taking out the glass from frames. Please discuss with us before purchase as we need to ensure that items can be insured, if not delivered locally.

    Refund Policy

We offer a refund to customers if you inform us within 14 days of receiving your items, and you have a further 14 days to return the goods once you've told us. The postage is at your cost and must be a tracked service, returned in the same box and wrapped to the same standard as on dispatch, so we can prove the item has been returned and is in the same state as sent by us.
We do not offer refunds under these circumstances:
If you have damaged an item once received. We provide condition of all items in the description and that forms part of the terms of sale.
If you no longer want an item (for example because it’s the wrong size or colour). All items are photographed accurately although colours may vary slightly, they are a true representation of the actual colour.
We only accept returns from the person who bought the item.
